IN KAZAKHSTAN THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE REGIONAL FORUM - MEETING OF HEADS OF EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS OF THE COUNTRIES OF CENTRAL ASIA WAS HELD

 

On the eve, November 10,  a high-level event - the next Regional Forum - Meeting of Heads of Emergency Agencies of Central Asia under the chairmanship of the Kazakh side was held in Almaty on the basis of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction.

It was attended by the delegation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic headed by the First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic A. Mambetov. Also delegations headed by the heads of emergency departments of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of UN agencies, donor, international and non-governmental organizations.

A. Mambetov made a speech within the framework of the Regional Forum, where it was noted that Central Asia remains a vulnerable region, constantly exposed to natural disasters, from earthquakes to landslides and floods. He also emphasized the importance of further cooperation between the agencies aimed at strengthening efforts to protect the population and territory from natural and man-made e The event also focused on international cooperation in disaster risk reduction, as evidenced by presentations on regional disaster risk reduction programs and projects by such partners as UNISDR, UNDP, GIZ, World Bank, Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation, Economic Commission for Europe, UNICEF, IFRC, MapAction.  In addition, the issues of further cooperation in the framework of implementation of the Sendai Framework Program in the countries of the region were discussed.

the issue of ensuring access of the population to early warning systems for various disasters was of particular importance. Having discussed this issue, the heads of emergency agencies signed an appeal to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the establishment of the Regional Early Warning and Mutual Information System on the threat and occurrence of emergency situations of transboundary character.

Following the results of the Regional Forum - Meeting of Heads of Emergency Agencies of Central Asian countries the following documents were discussed and approved:

1. Appeal of the Heads of Emergency Agencies of Central Asian countries to the UN Secretary General on the issue of creation of the Regional Early Warning System and mutual information on threat and occurrence of emergency situations of transboundary character was signed. 

2. the Concept of creating a Digital Atlas of natural and man-made transboundary hazards of the CA countries on the example of the developing platform "Digital safety passport and interactive map - digital atlas of risks in the Republic of Kazakhstan was discussed and approved 

3. Final document - Protocol of the Regional Forum - Meeting of Heads of Emergency Departments of Central Asia adopted (signed by the heads of delegations of emergency departments of CA countries), dated November 10, 2023, Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan.
