THE International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) REGIONAL OFFICE FOR CENTRAL ASIA AND ASIA OPENS IN BISHKEK 

 

THE OFFICIAL SIGNING OF THE AGREEMENT TOOK PLACE TODAY 

 

Today, on October 27 at the Central Office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic took place the official signing ceremony of the Agreement between the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic and the International Civil Defence Organization on the establishment of the Regional Humanitarian Office of the International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO) for Central Asia and Asia.

Major General Boobek Azhikeev, Minister of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, Andrey Kudinov, Deputy Secretary General of the ICDO, as well as representatives of international civil protection organizations and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic took part in it. 

In the course of his greeting, the Head of the MES of the KR emphasized the historical significance of today.

" ICDO specializes internationally in addressing issues in the field of Civil Defense and protection of the population in emergencies. We are very glad that the Regional Office of such a significant organization as the ICDO is being opened here in the Kyrgyz Republic. 

Opening of the Regional Office will create conditions for coordination and improvement of activities of the international community in the field of prevention of natural and man-made emergencies and elimination of their consequences. Without any doubt, I believe that in case of emergencies the Regional Center will become the main center for making the fastest decisions and the most effective ways of providing support in the field of rapid response to emergencies, providing humanitarian assistance to the population affected by natural disasters throughout the Asian region in accordance with its founding documents and the principles of international law," said Minister Boobek Azhikeev. 

The Head of MES KR also expressed hope that the establishment of the Regional Office will cause positive dynamics in favor of joining other countries of Central Asia and Asia, which are not yet members.

"For all the years of Kyrgyzstan's membership in ICDO and representation in the Executive Board, the Kyrgyz side has made its contribution to the development of the Organization, in particular, the efforts of all ICDO member states were focused on joint development of priorities for the integrated development of the ICDO system and ensuring life safety of the population of the territories. The Kyrgyz Republic will continue to be actively involved in the process of implementation of the Strategic Partnership Program within the framework of MOGO and will make every effort to effectively implement joint projects, expand cooperation and strengthen the authority of the Organization" - concluded Boobek Azhikeev.

In turn, the Deputy Secretary General of ICDO Andrey Kudinov on behalf of this organization of its 60 member countries thanked for the support that the International Civil Defense Organization received and is currently receiving from the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic. 

"The work that we have been doing recently may have been a certain impetus for the events that are happening now" - added Andrei Kudinov.

Within the framework of the meeting the signing ceremony of the Agreement between the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic and the International Organization of Accredited KR on the establishment of the ICDO Regional Humanitarian Office for Central Asia and Asia took place.
