A MEETING OF THE MINISTER OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS OF THE KR WITH THE LEADERSHIP OF THE GLOBAL GREEN GROWTH INSTITUTE TOOK PLACE IN AZERBAIJAN

Today, November 12, in the city of Baku (Azerbaijan), on the sidelines of the 29th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, a meeting was held between the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, Major General Boobek Azhikeev, and the Acting Director of the Global Green Growth Institute, Ms. Helena MacLeod.

 

The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of attracting grant funding in the amount of 8 million US dollars for the implementation of joint projects aimed at increasing resilience to climate change and reducing the risks of natural disasters in Kyrgyzstan.

 

During the meeting, issues of preparation and implementation of a grant project were discussed, which will help strengthen the emergency management system in the country and create effective mechanisms for adaptation to climate change, including improved monitoring of natural disasters, creation and modernization of warning systems, as well as development and implementation of innovative technologies for forecasting and risk management.

 

The project will be aimed at improving the early warning system for threats and emergencies by introducing new innovative technologies.

 

During the meeting, Minister Boobek Azhikeev emphasized the importance of attracting international grant funds to implement effective projects that will help strengthen the national emergency response system.

 

The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic also noted that climate change poses a serious threat to the region and only through joint efforts can the resilience of the population and infrastructure to natural disasters be increased.
