MEETING OF THE MINISTER WITH THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL, FAO REPRESENTATIVE IN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA
Today, November 13, within the framework of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, the Minister of Emergency Situations Boobek Azhikeyev held a meeting with the Deputy Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), FAO Representative in Europe and Central Asia Mr. Viorel Gutu.
During the meeting, a number of key issues related to climate change, emergency management, food security and sustainable rural development were discussed.
The parties paid special attention to the initiative to create a national database of glaciers in Kyrgyzstan, which will allow systematic monitoring of the state and dynamics of glaciers and will help to more effectively predict and prevent risks associated with climate change.
Minister Boobek Azhikeev emphasized the importance of the partnership with FAO to strengthen Kyrgyzstan's preparedness to respond to climate and natural threats, and also noted with satisfaction the work being carried out to implement forestry projects aimed at restoring and preserving forests as an important component of the natural ecosystem, which helps maintain biodiversity, stabilize soils and reduce the risks of land degradation.
In turn, Mr. Viorel Gutu confirmed FAO’s commitment to supporting the Kyrgyz Republic in building capacity to manage risks and improve the sustainability of agriculture.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed mutual interest in further cooperation and implementation of joint projects aimed at ensuring sustainable development, security and well-being of the population of the Kyrgyz Republic.
