IN BAKU, THE HEAD OF THE MINISTRY OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS HELD A MEETING WITH THE DIRECTOR OF THE FINNISH METEOROLOGICAL INSTITUTE "FINKMET"
The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) is taking place in Baku.
Within the framework of this Conference, a meeting was held between the Minister of Emergency Situations, Major General Boobek Azhikeev, and the Head of the Finnish Meteorological Institute "FINKMET", Mr. Harri Pietarila.
During the meeting, key issues related to disaster risk management and adaptation to climate change in Kyrgyzstan were discussed.
The parties paid special attention to issues of personnel training, improvement of the hydrometeorological system, implementation of joint projects, as well as continuation of the current FINKMET project.
The implementation and upgrade of SmartAlert software was also discussed, which will improve the effectiveness of meteorological forecasts and emergency preparedness.
During the conversation, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations emphasized the importance of the FINKMET project for increasing the accuracy of meteorological forecasts and improving emergency preparedness. According to him, cooperation with Finnish partners will facilitate the exchange of experience and the introduction of modern technologies in the field of meteorology.
In turn, Harri Pietarila expressed readiness for further cooperation and noted that the FINKMET project is aimed at strengthening the meteorological infrastructure in Kyrgyzstan, which, in turn, will help reduce the risks associated with natural disasters.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Boobek Azhikeev thanked Mr. Harri Pietaril for his active cooperation and expressed confidence in the successful implementation of the FINKMET project for the benefit of the people of Kyrgyzstan.
