KYRGYZSTAN PROVIDED HUMANITARIAN AID TO AFGHANISTAN
Kyrgyzstan has provided 111 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
The consequences of the natural disaster that occurred in Afghanistan on October 7 of last year caused considerable hardships to the people of the country. Therefore, Kyrgyzstan is taking several steps to provide the needed assistance. The leadership of the country is drawing the attention of the world community by speaking from high platforms about the need to strengthen relations with Afghanistan and the initiative to support them.
On September 20, 2023 at the 75th session of the United Nations held in New York City, the Head of Kyrgyz State Sadyr Japarov stated that Kyrgyzstan is interested in supporting the peaceful, prosperous and stable life of Afghanistan.
On November 9 of last year, at the Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Tashkent, and at the meeting of the heads of the CSTO member states held in Minsk on November 20, he called for the attention of the world communities to provide humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.
By the initiation of the president, 111 tons of humanitarian aid were sent from Kyrgyzstan to the regions affected by the earthquake. Major-General Boobek Ajikeyev, the Minister who managed the "Aid Caravan" sent it off from Osh on November 29, 2023. Thus, the "Aid Caravan" consisting of rescuers led by the deputy minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, colonel Urmatbek Shamyrkanov, went on a long journey of several days.
11 trucks with 75 tons of flour, 20 tons of sugar, 5 tons of oil and 500 beds, blankets, as well as 1 million soms worth of clothing and household items from the International Civil Defense Organization - all went through a 2 day journey through Uzbekistan. First, the ministers of emergency situations of the two countries agreed in advance on the safe passage of the "aid convoy" through Uzbekistan.
Daniyar Zholchiev, the temporary representative of Kyrgyzstan, met at the Khairaton border crossing point in Afghanistan, organized meetings with provincial leaders ensuring safety up until the city of Herat, and accompanied the rescuers until they returned to their homeland.
Kyrgyz rescuers, who traveled almost 2700 kilometers, distributed food, clothes and other items and provided medical assistance to the residents of the village of Faizabad, which is located near the city of Herat. The rest of the aid was handed over to local authorities.
From December 1st to December 9th, the aid convoy of the Kyrgyz Republic to the victims of the earthquake in Afghanistan had successfully completed its mission and returned home. These days, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Chairman of the National Committee for the Protection of Kyrgyz Rescuers, Kamchybek Tashiev, supervised the safety of Kyrgyz rescuers.
Recall that on October 7 of last year, more than 2,000 people died, 10,000 were injured and thousands of homes were destroyed due to a natural disaster in Herat province, which is located near the borders of Iran and Turkmenistan.
