IV CONFERENCE FOR THE DISASTER RISK REDUCTION DAY WAS HELD IN THE CAPITAL CITY
Today Bishkek is hosting the fourth scientific and practical conference on the results of "5 October - Day of Disaster Risk Reduction in Kyrgyzstan" held annually by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The event was attended by the Director of the Situation Centre of the Presidential Administration Joldoshbek Mambetaliev, Minister of Emergency Situations Major General Boobek Azhikeev, representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to the Kyrgyz Republic Olivier Bangerter, as well as the Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek - Ambassador Alexey Rogov, Deputy Country Director of WFP Hilke David and others.
The scientific and practical conference is dedicated to discussing the results of the month-long celebration of the Day of Disaster Risk Reduction in Kyrgyzstan.
As a reminder, from 5 September to 5 October, a number of activities were held in the framework of the "Disaster Risk Reduction Month" across the country. Special attention was paid to raising public awareness on disaster risk reduction measures.
During the first part of the scientific and practical conference, the participants shared the results of the work done, told what was achieved by the end of the month.
Also, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic spoke about the Concept of comprehensive protection of the population and territory of the Kyrgyz Republic from emergency situations (natural and man-made disasters, floods, landslides), as well as discussed issues aimed at disaster risk reduction in the country.
At the conference, the issues of natural disasters related to climate change in the country were particularly relevant.
Reports on environmental factors and their impact on human health were read out.
It should be noted that the event was organised with the financial support of the OSCE.
