MEETING OF THE MINISTER WITH THE HEAD OF THE OFFICE OF THE GREEN CLIMATE FUND

Today, November 13, in Baku, the Minister of Emergency Situations, Major General Boobek Azhikeyev, held a meeting with the head of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) office, Mr. Henry Gonzalez, to discuss cooperation in the field of financing projects aimed at adapting to climate change and disaster risk management.

 

During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibilities of attracting funding for the implementation of environmentally sustainable projects that will help Kyrgyzstan cope with the consequences of climate change. The Minister emphasized the importance of the effective use of GCF resources to increase the country's resilience to natural disasters and improve emergency preparedness.

 

Issues on the planned project of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic “Development of an early warning system for emergency situations to increase resilience to climate change in the regions of the Fergana Valley in the Kyrgyz Republic” were also discussed.

 

During the meeting, the parties noted the importance of creating an effective early warning system that will reduce losses from natural disasters and increase the population’s preparedness for the consequences of climate change.

 

Boobek Azhikeev emphasized that the project will not only contribute to improving disaster risk management, but also to strengthening the resilience of local communities to climate change. He also noted the importance of using modern technologies and methods in developing an early warning system.

 

In turn, the head of the GCF office, Mr. Henry Gonzalez, expressed his readiness to support this project, noting its importance for increasing Kyrgyzstan's resilience to climate challenges. They also discussed the possibilities of integrating the From Glaciers to Farms project, which is aimed at sustainable water management and adaptation of agriculture to climate change, which is a key aspect for ensuring food security in the region.

 

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on further cooperation and the development of specific projects that will contribute to the sustainable development of Kyrgyzstan and improve the lives of its citizens.
