IN BAKU, BOOBEK AZHIKEYEV AND JIN SUNG PIL DISCUSSED WAYS TO SOLVE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

Today, November 13, as part of the COP 29 meeting, the Minister of Emergency Situations, Major General Boobek Azhikeev, held a meeting with the Deputy Executive Director of the Asian Forestry Cooperation Organization, Mr. Jin Sun Pil, where they discussed key topics related to afforestation and current environmental issues in the country.

During the meeting, the Minister noted the importance of increasing forest plantations in light of land degradation and related natural disasters such as mudflows and landslides. He stressed the need to improve planting methodology and select more suitable tree species, especially for red clay areas.

The parties also discussed a pilot project to strengthen river banks using forest plantings instead of traditional concrete fortifications, which will increase the resilience of ecosystems and protect settlements from the negative consequences of natural disasters.

In turn, AFOCO representatives shared their experience of forest restoration in Korea, where soil research was used to select suitable tree species. They proposed sending a group of experts to Kyrgyzstan to study hazardous areas and develop measures to prevent natural disasters.

The meeting participants also discussed issues of further cooperation and the use of Korean technologies for sustainable forestry. Plans were announced to create large parks in the cities of Bishkek, Osh and Jalal-Abad, which will help ensure ecological balance and preserve biodiversity.

The Minister expressed hope for support for the development of infrastructure and modern equipment for afforestation, including aerial logging methods, the establishment of a local laboratory for seed processing and the introduction of new systems for monitoring the condition and changes in forest areas.

The meeting was an important step towards strengthening cooperation in the field of forestry and ecology, as well as developing effective measures to prevent environmental disasters in Kyrgyzstan.
